July 2018: Syler Hayes wins Best Master’s Poster Award from CPA SCP
Syler Hayes was awarded the Best Master’s Poster Award from the Canadian Psychological Association’s Section on Counselling Psychology. The award comes with a certificate and a cash honorarium. Congratulations Syler on this impressive accomplishment given how many posters were being judged at the Canadian Psychological Association Conference in Montreal.
July 2018: Two Master’s students in lab awarded ECPS Scholarship for Continuing Students
Two master’s students in the lab (Rajeena Kumar and Lauren Currie) were each awarded the ECPS Scholarship for Continuing Students. There were 35 applicants this year and so the pool was highly competitive. Congrats Rajeena and Lauren.

Dr. Bedi was awarded a UBC SSHRC Explore Grant for his project entitled, “Investigating Religious Bias Against and Social Service Access Disparities for Sikh Individuals in Vancouver.” The value of the grant is $5384.

April 2018: Dr. Bedi is successful with Mitacs Globalink Research Internship Grant
Dr. Bedi’s project related to culturally adapting counselling to the Indian culture has been successful in obtaining an international research intern through the competitive Globalink Research Internship Program. Ms. Xiaoxiao Jin, an undergraduate major in Global Health from Wuhan University in China will be joining the lab for 12 weeks beginning June 2018.

Rajeena Kumar, a master’s student going into her second year of the MA Counselling Psychology program and lab member, won the 2017 ECPS Scholarship for Continuing Students valued at $1250. Competition is based on first class standing, scholarly contributions, research experience and a research proposal.
